Bernard LaRue, 67, Ironton, who served on the Sauk County board for a record 37 years, died Saturday in a Reedsburg hospital after a long illness.
He was born October 26, 1899 in Ironton. For a number of years he operated farms in the area. He was a member of the Holy Family Catholic church, LaValle.
In April 1928 he was elected to represent Ironton on the county board and he served until January 1965, when he retired. During his years on the board, he was a member of the highway commission for 7 years, and vice chairman for 15 years. When Sauk County remodeled the old courthouse and built an addition and new jail at Baraboo, he was chairman of the building committee for the $1 million project.
Surviving is his wife, Mamie.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning in Holy Family church, with Fr. John W. Kravec officiating, and burial was in Calvary cemetery at Ironton. The rosary was said Monday evening at the Gant funeral home.
