Ernest (Ern or Ernie) Nelson Tabor

Ern (or "Ernie") was a quiet, rather shy and self-effacing musician. Medium in height and weight, he had a good sense of humor and a laugh which was barely audible--more of a chuckle. Ern was playing the baritone horn at eight years of age in the Junior Dorchester (Wisconsin) band organized by his father. Not long thereafter he switched to the slide trombone--which was his major instrument. The basics of music--time, tone, and the ability to read--were drilled into him early at home. Other than these basics, Ern was self-taught--as were his younger brothers, William and Glenn.
